The challenge

Wholesale floral supply is one of the least forgiving categories in commerce. The product is perishable, so an order placed late is not merely delayed — it is worthless. Demand is violently seasonal: Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day compress a meaningful share of annual volume into a few days, and the systems that cope comfortably in an ordinary week are the ones that fail then. Pricing is not a single number — every trade customer has negotiated tiers, and quoting the wrong one damages a relationship built over years. Orders were arriving by phone, fax and email, then being re-keyed into the ERP by hand, which is exactly where the errors and the lost hours were.

Our approach

We built wholesale portals on Shopify Plus that show each trade customer their own negotiated pricing on login, with real-time stock so nobody orders what has already gone. Quick-order and reorder workflows let a florist rebuild a standing weekly order in seconds rather than filling a cart item by item. Dynamics 365 and Shopify were connected through REST APIs and webhook orchestration so an order lands in the ERP without a keystroke, and pricing, inventory and customer records stay in one place. Order-forecasting automation was built specifically for the seasonal peaks — the point of the system is that Mother’s Day is not an emergency.

Data, measurement & AI in this engagement

Forecasting draws on prior-season ordering patterns by customer and product line to flag likely peak demand early, so buying decisions happen with lead time rather than under pressure. Anomaly detection on order patterns catches the mis-keyed quantity — the extra zero on a perishable order — before it ships. Power BI dashboards give the commercial team live visibility into order flow, fulfilment and exceptions instead of a report after the fact.

Where this goes next — the AI opportunity

Predictive reorder suggestions per customer based on their own history and seasonal signals, presented as a prepared draft the customer confirms rather than an order placed on their behalf. In a perishable, relationship-led category, the buyer keeps the final say.
