CPFintech & Payments
The challenge

A payments business is judged on two things its customers never see: how quickly a new merchant can start transacting, and whether the numbers in the reporting match the numbers in the bank. Manual onboarding steps and reporting that finance teams have to re-cut in a spreadsheet both cost the same thing — trust. This is a separate client and a separate engagement from our Debtrak gateway work and from Collect AU.

Our approach

We support the platform side: merchant onboarding flows with the verification steps sequenced so applicants are not asked for the same thing twice, gateway routing rules, webhook orchestration with signed payloads and idempotency keys so a retried event never double-posts, and a reporting layer built for the way finance teams actually reconcile — by settlement batch, by merchant, by exception — rather than a generic dashboard nobody opens twice.

Cloud architecture & controls — AWS

Runs on AWS with the controls a payments platform is audited against: private-subnet isolation for processing workloads, KMS encryption at rest and TLS in transit, Secrets Manager with automated credential rotation, least-privilege IAM, WAF and Shield at the edge, API Gateway request validation and throttling, Lambda for event-driven processing, SQS with dead-letter queues so no webhook is lost, RDS with encrypted backups and point-in-time recovery, CloudTrail and CloudWatch alarming for a tamper-evident trail, GuardDuty and Security Hub, and multi-AZ deployment — all defined as infrastructure-as-code.

Data, measurement & AI in this engagement

Anomaly detection across routing performance and settlement data, so a degrading acquirer route or an unusual decline pattern surfaces the same day. Findings go to an operator; nothing reroutes automatically.

Where this goes next — the AI opportunity

Predictive routing informed by historical acceptance rates per acquirer and card type, proposed to an operator for approval rather than applied automatically.
