The challenge

KYA’s entire value proposition was answering asset questions in real time — which meant that under load, response times were not a technical inconvenience but a direct contradiction of the pitch. Demonstrations were the worst place for it to show: an enterprise prospect watching a spinner during a sales demo draws conclusions about the whole platform. Two audiences were applying pressure simultaneously and for different reasons. Enterprise buyers wanted evidence the architecture would hold at their scale and satisfy their security review. Investors wanted evidence the platform was a durable asset rather than a prototype that had reached its ceiling. Both needed proof that could be inspected, not asserted.

Our approach

We profiled the platform end to end rather than guessing at hot spots, then restructured the data access and GraphQL layer where the real cost was. Heavy work moved to asynchronous processing so the interactive path stays fast regardless of what is running behind it. Identity and access were tightened with Cognito and enforced MFA, and the whole platform moved onto a repeatable deployment pipeline so releases stopped being events that required someone to be available afterwards. Critically, the architecture was documented to a standard that enterprise procurement and investor technical diligence could actually review — in enterprise SaaS, being secure and being able to demonstrate you are secure are two different deliverables, and the second one closes deals.

Performance regression is monitored continuously so a slow query is caught in a deployment pipeline rather than in a customer demonstration. Anomaly detection on latency and error rates flags degradation before users report it. The roadmap direction is retrieval-augmented querying over asset records — which in this context has a hard requirement: an answer without a citation back to the source record is worse than no answer, because asset decisions carry real operational consequences.
