Two established Perth tile retailers — Tile Boutique and Tiles Expo — had to become one mid-luxury brand, Tile Empire, without surrendering the search equity, showroom recognition and category rankings each had built over a decade. Domain migrations are where retailers quietly lose a year of revenue. The failure mode is always the same: an overnight domain-level redirect executed before the new brand has demonstrably absorbed demand, followed by a collapse in visibility that nobody can unwind. Both legacy brands were still capturing substantial independent organic demand, particularly on branded and suburb-level queries, and both carried long-tail value in collection, filter, vendor and store-location URLs that a product-only redirect map would have discarded.
We ran it as a staged Digital Transition Strategy with a documented decision gate, not a switch. Redirect phases were sequenced to the physical store rebranding so search and signage told the same story on the same day. Every product URL across both legacy catalogues was mapped individually to its Tile Empire equivalent, and the inner-page layer — collections, aesthetic and colour filters, vendor pages, showroom and store-locator URLs — was audited separately rather than swept into a homepage redirect, because that is where the long-tail value sits. Most importantly, we defined in advance the conditions that would justify the final permanent domain redirect, and refused to execute it until the data met them. When the client asked whether to pull the trigger, our formal recommendation was to wait — the new domain was accelerating but had not yet held majority share across the longer windows. Advising a client not to do something is part of the work.
Shopify Plus with headless integration · custom Dynamics 365 connectors · GA4 custom events into Power BI · staged 301 architecture with URL-level product mapping across both legacy catalogues · separate inner-page, collection, filter, vendor and store-locator redirect audit · Search Console monitoring across three properties on rolling 14/28/90-day windows · Shopify SEO hygiene across product titles, descriptions, collection metadata and pagination handling.
Transition health is read across rolling 14, 28 and 90-day Search Console windows simultaneously, because a single short window is distorted by weekends, public holidays, crawl cycles and delayed reporting — and is the easiest way to talk yourself into a bad decision. The primary migration KPI is Tile Empire’s share of combined organic clicks across all three domains, not its clicks in isolation. Query-level and page-level exports are compared automatically between windows to detect legacy URLs still carrying value and to confirm that keyword footprint, not just branded traffic, is transferring. AI-assisted analysis flags the anomalies; the redirect decision stays with the strategist.
Completing the remaining inner-page and vendor redirect exceptions, then the permanent domain redirect once the trigger conditions hold across a sustained window. After that, consolidating the legacy content that still earns impressions into Tile Empire category pages rather than retiring it.
